Live Tweeting Assignment: Homecoming Chamber Orchestra Concert

Besides this past weekend being Hallo-weekend, it was also Ohio Northern's Homecoming weekend! To capture the events of Homecoming we were all required to pick an event and live tweet throughout its duration. While I wasn't able to attend much of the Homecoming festivities, I was able to make the ONU Chamber Orchestra concert. On Saturday, I had work until five but luckily the concert didn't start until 7:30. Since I was already in town, I was able to pick up my younger brother and take him to the concert with me! He plays the cello and trumpet in high school and went to the ONU Summer Music Camp this past summer, so he was excited to come and see the concert. I was nervous that the concert was going to fill up as fast as the choir one did so we got there a little bit earlier than we needed to. Even so, it gave us time to buy tickets and talk our energy out before the concert started.  Looking at the program I was a little nervous as to how long the concert would be, but i

Looking Forward

Time really has flown by in my first semester of college. On the flip side, I feel like six weeks until the end of the semester is so far away! The idea of scheduling for classes on Monday is absolutely mind blowing and I'm just praying that all of the classes that I want to take are still available by the time I'm able to register.  While I am excited for the academic side of things, I am not excited about the cold weather that looms in the near future. I've enjoyed my walks across campus to get to my classes but I'm slowly starting to dread them more and more. While I am enjoying the few warm days that we have left I know that once that first snow hits it will be really hard to convince myself to leave the comfort of my bed and make the long trek across campus.  Luckily, Thanksgiving break is coming up, so I won't have to worry about walking out in the cold for a week. I haven't decided if I'm going to go home for the entire break or not, but I do know tha

Marketing with Pinterest

I have definitely done these chapter blog posts out of order but seeing as I've already created a post about X I'm going to write this one about Pinterest. I personally prefer to use Pinterest to collect aesthetics and create mood boards rather than look for specific products or connect with brands. However, after reading the chapter over Pinterest and completing our Pinterest assignment I found that the platform has not only become increasingly beneficial for businesses but also for shoppers. I really appreciate the unique angle that Pinterest offers for its users when determining what products to buy. I think that the ability to imagine certain products in different aesthetics and environments is a huge factor as to why Pinterest can be such a lucrative platform. I know that I've scrolled through Pinterest and seen multiple different pins of the same product but have only saved the one that fit the aesthetic that I was looking for.  I think it is slightly absurd how many

Chapter 7: Marketing with Snapchat

Many users use Snapchat as a form of communication and to stay up to date with friends. While this sounds like most other social media platforms there are some substantial differences. Snapchat users mainly communicate by sending pictures or short videos to each other or by posting to their stories. On a larger scale users can post to location stories or create Snapchat Reels if they want to share experiences with more people. Because communication on Snapchat is more personal companies have found creative ways to market. Companies can create their own stories that users can subscribe to for entertainment or insights. This is a great way to engage both current and potential audiences as Snapchat's algorithm will suggest your content to users with similar interests.  Another way that companies have promoted their brand or products is through AR filters through Snapchat's camera function. Besides just being able to add a filter users can also try on products such as lipstick, gla

A Weekend in Nashville: ICON 2023

Image
Over this past weekend I had the amazing opportunity to visit Nashville, Tennesse with ONU's PRSSA chapter. While in Nashville our group attended ICON which is the national conference for the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) and the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA). During this conference I was able to hear from so many incredible speakers and also watch our own professor, Dr. Aggie, receive an amazing and well-deserved award.   Out of all of the sessions that I attended there were two that stuck out to me the most. The first was a talk on international public relations and crisis communications. With my primary professional interest being in international and cultural public relations strategies the session was more than informative and really solidified my interest.  The other session that really stood out to me talked about creating and maintaining meaningful journalist relations. This session really highlighted the importance of journalism in coordi

Midterm Reflection

With fall break right around the corner, I figured it was as good a time as any to reflect on how my first semester of college is going. I was definitely nervous coming into college but now that I've gotten pretty adjusted, I feel much more comfortable putting myself out there. I've joined our Latino Student Union as well as our PRSSA chapter. There hasn't been much going to do with LSU as of yet but I'm very excited for my upcoming trip to Nashville, Tennesse with our PRSSA chapter.  As far as actual classes go, I was struggling a bit at first but now that we've started more projects and papers, I'm doing a lot better. I like all of my professors and it's nice that they're understanding when it comes to getting sick or having to miss class. The only thing that has been mildly inconvenient is remembering to make time for homework and not get caught up in clubs or hanging out with friends.  I haven't been very homesick either, which I will attribute

Chapter 6: Marketing with X (Twitter)

Not having X myself, I was interested to learn how effective the platform when it comes to marketing. I think one of the biggest things that sets X apart from other platforms is the customer relations aspect that it carries. X provides multiple different ways for businesses to connect with their customers in both lighthearted and professional ways.  1. Questions and Polls     A quick and easy way to get feedback from your customers, polls provide an easy platform to ask questions. When posting a poll,  you are offering multiple options for your followers to vote for and getting their responses in real time. To boost engagements with your poll you can always add a humorous component but be aware that this could blur your data.  2. X Chats     To host an X chat you just choose a specific time and day as well as a pre-defined hashtag that will then link posts together in a thread. This is an excellent opportunity for brands to show that they are experts in their field and build brand loy
