Wrapping Up My First Semester!

Wow does time fly! It feels like just the other day my parents were helping my move into my dorm and now I've had a semester full of college firsts and exams are quickly approaching. I came into college unsure about if it was the right choice for me and with some angst towards the thought of returning to school. Over time, I came to really appreciate the college atmosphere and look forward to what I would learn in my classes. Even if there were times where I would rather stay in bed.  Next week I only have two exams that I need to take in person which is a huge relief for my study load. I have my Principles of Public Relations exam on Tuesday and my TREX exam on Wednesday. I have until Thursday to complete my PC Apps exam which is nice because Excel and I don't always get along. After I've finished everything the first thing I plan to do is to go home and take a nice long bath.  I'm sure that break will even faster than this semester has but while I have the chance I&#

Review: Simternship

While our textbook and the in-person classes did teach me a lot about the inner workings of each different social media platform the Simternship taught me about the application of those ideas. It also taught me a lot about strategizing and just how effective paid advertising and influencer marketing can be.  Over the course of the semester, we were supposed to complete 12 "weeks" of the Simternship, spacing them out and adjusting our strategy as we moved through the book. While I started off doing one week at a time, I found that strategy extremely difficult and time consuming. Yes, it was nice that I didn't have to sit down and do everything all at once, but I did find myself struggling to remember my previous strategies and what my goals were. Eventually the deadline approached, and I was forced to complete the rest of the modules all at once. Oddly enough, this made the process a lot easier as I could remember what I had done and more effectively adjust my strategy. A

Review: Essentials of Social Media Marketing

Looking back at everything I've learned over the course of this class I can definitely say that this was one of the books worth buying. While there were a couple of issues that I had with the book I think that it definitely did its job with explaining the foundation of leveraging social media as a marketing tool and how to do so with each prominent platform. I liked that the book gave an in depth look into the demographics of the users for each platform. While I don't remember every piece of information from those sections but being able to get an overview of who is on each platform was very insightful. I also liked how it went through how to navigate the marketing and advertising options on each platform and explained and gave examples on how best to utilize them. While the book was very informative it was also repetitive, and I sometimes found myself getting quickly bored with the chapter because it was so similar to the previous ones. While the information was good it was h

Thanksgiving Break

The much-needed break has come and gone quicker than I expected it to. While there was definitely a lot of homework that didn't get done until the last minute, I still really enjoyed my break and was able to be productive in other ways. I also got to see most of my family for the holiday in between shifts at work and attempts at being productive.  I was able to work quite a bit over break and even though it felt like I wasn't really on break because of it I'm happy that I got to save up some money so I can focus on finals over the next couple of weeks. Although, the downside of working so much was that I convinced myself that I was too tired to get my homework done. All of which was finished either Sunday night or Monday morning. On the bright side of procrastination, I freaked out and did some more homework than I needed to so now I'm a little ahead which is a good feeling.  Living just down the road I didn't go home very much for break. But when my family did get

Marketing with LinkedIn

While many social media channels are focused on promoting entertainment material, LinkedIn focuses on connecting professionals and providing a platform for networking and development. Even though this is the primary purpose of LinkedIn it doesn't diminish the marketing opportunities that are available to businesses. In addition to gaining sales leads LinkedIn can also build substantial relationships with both employees and customers.  Because of the professional nature of the platform many see it as a credible source of information amongst the sea of fake news. This is in part because of how closely involved it is with the Wall Street Journal and Forbes. This is just one of the many uses that LinkedIn offers. Many say that in additional to being educational and informative it is inspiring, and assists will skill development.  To properly use LinkedIn to your advantage you can utilize one or several different types of pages. A company page is where users will learn about your busin

Live Tweeting Assignment: Homecoming Chamber Orchestra Concert

Besides this past weekend being Hallo-weekend, it was also Ohio Northern's Homecoming weekend! To capture the events of Homecoming we were all required to pick an event and live tweet throughout its duration. While I wasn't able to attend much of the Homecoming festivities, I was able to make the ONU Chamber Orchestra concert. On Saturday, I had work until five but luckily the concert didn't start until 7:30. Since I was already in town, I was able to pick up my younger brother and take him to the concert with me! He plays the cello and trumpet in high school and went to the ONU Summer Music Camp this past summer, so he was excited to come and see the concert. I was nervous that the concert was going to fill up as fast as the choir one did so we got there a little bit earlier than we needed to. Even so, it gave us time to buy tickets and talk our energy out before the concert started.  Looking at the program I was a little nervous as to how long the concert would be, but i

Looking Forward

Time really has flown by in my first semester of college. On the flip side, I feel like six weeks until the end of the semester is so far away! The idea of scheduling for classes on Monday is absolutely mind blowing and I'm just praying that all of the classes that I want to take are still available by the time I'm able to register.  While I am excited for the academic side of things, I am not excited about the cold weather that looms in the near future. I've enjoyed my walks across campus to get to my classes but I'm slowly starting to dread them more and more. While I am enjoying the few warm days that we have left I know that once that first snow hits it will be really hard to convince myself to leave the comfort of my bed and make the long trek across campus.  Luckily, Thanksgiving break is coming up, so I won't have to worry about walking out in the cold for a week. I haven't decided if I'm going to go home for the entire break or not, but I do know tha
